I just last week had to tweak H&FJ's Archer. We've got plenty of fonts from very well-known foundries that need tweaks. Well, you'd think so, but in practice this isn't black and white.
I was wondering what others thought about this? Is there more to these settings that I should know? Well-made fonts should always use metrics spacing. I’ve been playing with it some and have noticed that optical has helped smooth out some headline type but metric seems to be just fine for my body copy. Recently I’ve been told that optical kerning is better than metric but when I did some research it sounded like this was either just a matter of opinion or that optical kerning was only necessary for some typefaces that aren’t extremely well designed.
